We’ve already told you about some Hollywood stars, who quit smoking. In fact, last week, in Part II of our series of inspirational stories on famous people who quit smoking, we told you about our very own ‘Bumba-da’ aka Prosenjit Chatterjee, who won the battle against tobacco! This week we bring to you another stirring sojourn – this time, a doting daughter of Bengal who is a famous name both in Tollywood and Bollywood. Here’s presenting the ever-so-effervescent Koko alias Konkona Sen and her poignant story of saying NO to cigarettes.

Konkona Sen, 35

It appears that the Bong diva, known for her stellar act in National Award winning films such as Rituparno Ghosh’s Dosar and Madhur Bhandarkar’s Page 3, apart from blockbusters such as Ayan Mukherjee’s Wake Up Sid, was a chain smoker who just couldn’t say NO to the cancer stick! Daughter of Aparna Sen, an acclaimed actress and filmmaker herself, Konkona reportedly quit smoking on her journey to motherhood after marrying actor Ranvir Shorey, back in 2010. “The pregnancy meant a complete change in lifestyle. I used to be a smoker; overnight I couldn’t smoke or drink at all,” she was quoted saying in an interview to The Hindustan Times. However, during her pregnancy, she said on her Twitter profile, “It’s been two months that I`ve given up smoking and drinking.” How? An insider revealed in another news report that it was Ranvir’s constant support that helped Konkona finally let go of the habit. Apparently, she also read up books on how cigarettes lead to complications during pregnancy, and this possibly gave the actress the added enthusiasm to quit. Well, all we can say is that we’re proud of you Koko for reasons more than one now!
